The Caravan and Motorhome Club are delighted to announce it will be planting 2022 trees in 2022 in support of The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) which is a unique tree-planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee this year.

The Club operates a network of over 200 campsites in the UK and the planting of 2022 trees will be spread across these sites during the official tree planting season (October to March).

QGC invites people from across the United Kingdom to “Plant a Tree for the Jubilee” and the Caravan and Motorhome Club is proud to pledge its support to this wonderful initiative.

On Tuesday 22 February six trees were ceremonially planted at Chapel Lane Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite, in Wythall, near Birmingham, to celebrate the Club’s support of The Queen’s Green Canopy.

Three Wild Cherry (Prunus Avium) and three Silver Birch (Betula Pendula) trees will be planted by tv presenter, journalist, and Club member, Matt Allwright; singer, tv presenter, and farmer, JB Gill; the Club’s Chairman, Grenville Chamberlain OBE; Club Director-General, Nick Lomas and Club Director of Marketing and Membership Services, Harvey Alexander.

The importance of trees is clearly highlighted by the Woodland Trust in their ‘State of the UK’s Woods and Trees 2021’ report by stating that ‘trees are vital for a healthy, happy society’. The benefit of trees includes helping to curtail climate change, through capturing and storing carbon, reducing pollution, reducing temperature, and preventing flooding. A large number of Caravan and Motorhome Club campsites are located near woodland or have woodland walks nearby.  Walking through trees and woodland is also a wonderful way to enhance our mood, improve our mental and physical wellbeing.

Caravan and Motorhome Club Director-General, Nick Lomas, said,

“We are proud to pledge our support to The Queen’s Green Canopy and plant trees in recognition of Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022. Tree planting is one of the most engaging and environmentally friendly activities that people can take part in and help to enrich the planet.  The benefits of tree planting and the removal of carbon from the atmosphere benefit the wider population, not just those who live or stay the most locally.  The Caravan and Motorhome Club is on a continuous journey of responsible actions to reduce our environmental impact and help our members, guests, and future generations, get more from the great outdoors.”

To aid the success of this initiative the Caravan and Motorhome Club will be planting native trees that are purchased from suppliers that are ‘Plant Healthy’ certified. Plant Healthy aims to reduce pests and diseases to ensure that the trees survive and thrive when planted. The 2022 trees that will be planted on the Caravan and Motorhome Club campsite network includes Green Beech, Field Maple, Silver Birch, Wild Cherry, Common Alder, Common Oak, Rowan, Hornbeam, Bird Cherry.  Over 1200 trees have already been planned or planted during the 21/22 winter season.

Lomas continues,

“Trees provide a positive impact and boost to wellbeing and mental health in addition to the benefits received from improved air quality.  The Club is proud to play a part in being custodians of the great outdoors for future generations and to help enhance the British countryside.”

2022 is also set to again be the year of the great staycation, and for leisure vehicle users, this means staycations are widened from the UK to overseas as they are staying in their own home from home ‘staycation’ accommodation.  A recent survey showed that 78% of Club members feel more confident to holiday in leisure vehicles on campsites rather than hotels or B&Bs.  It’s no wonder that it’s such a popular choice as staying in your own vehicle offers safety, comfort, flexibility, and adventure.
